The Children Act 1989 defines Parental Responsibility as all the rights, duties, powers, responsibilities and authority which, by law, a parent of a child has in relation to the child and his property.
This includes for example:-
- Providing a home for the child
- Seeing and living with the child
- Protecting and maintaining the child
- Discipline the child and choosing their education
- Agreeing to medical treatment
- Appointing a guardian
